Veilbreaker Skybridges

Come face to face with snow-capped peaks as you traverse the dramatic Veilbreaker Skybridges, stretched between ridge lines 2,500 feet in the air at the Alyeska Resort in Girdwood.

Mt. Alyeska—home to Alaska’s premier ski resort in winter—features a unique summertime adventure: walking over slender bridges high in the air.

Scenic Tram Ride

Begin your journey aboard an enclosed tram for a scenic ride to the top of Mt. Alyeska. There you’ll hike up a moderately steep trail for 20 to 30 minutes (or ride an ATV for an additional charge) to reach the bridges. With your small group of up to 10 people, you’ll get a harness and helmet.

Walk 2,500 Feet Above the Valley Floor

Then the adventure begins as you traverse these dramatic stretches 2,500 feet above the valley floor, with iconically Alaskan views stretched out before you in all directions. You’ll cross two bridges: Christmas Bridge, which spans 177 feet; and the 233-foot-long New Years Bridge—410 feet in all.

The views are nothing short of breathtaking. You’ll get a unique perspective on Turnagain Arm, the Chugach Mountains, glaciers tucked into the surrounding peaks, and the lush rainforest far below. You can capture it all on your phone, but be sure to tether it to your body—it’s a long way down!

No experience is required for this incredible adventure, though there are some requirements around height and weight. You can cross by yourself or go with one or two other people.

Then head back to the top of tram and ride down or grab a bite and a drink at the Bore Tide Deli and linger a bit more among the magnificent scenery. You can also check out the Roundhouse Museum to learn some local history before taking the tram down.
