Northern Alaska Tour Company Fort Yukon Tour

Catch a scenic flight to the Athabascan village of Fort Yukon, at the confluence of the Yukon and Porcupine rivers, eight miles above the Arctic Circle. You’ll be in the air for an hour and 15 minutes each way, with one hour on the ground. With your guide, you’ll touch the Yukon River, learn about subsistence, hear about the winter when it got down to 85 degrees below zero, and see the grave of the Rev. Hudson Stuck, who became the archdeacon of the Yukon in 1905 and led the first successful expedition to the summit of Mt. McKinley. You’ll leave Fairbanks at 7 in the evening and return around 11, with the midnight sun illuminating the way.

About Northern Alaska Tour Company

Northern Alaska Tour Company offers a diverse selection of tours designed to get you to Arctic, under the northern lights, close to Polar Bears, and more. This Fort Yukon Tour, along with their Anaktuvuk Pass Village Tour and the classic Alaska Mail Run are designed for the bold traveler who wants to see the real deal, not the Hollywood version, of remote Alaskan life in a remote village. You’ll get a kick out of passing over the Arctic Circle, and receive a certificate to prove you crossed the line. And during whaling season, you can do what most people only read about in National Geographic—fly to Kaktovik on the coast of the Beaufort Sea to watch polar bears pick whalebones clean.

What to Bring

  • 15-20 pounds is allowed for baggage, but space is limited so bring only a small carry-on, like a purse or small shoulder bag
  • Camera
  • Binoculars
  • Insect repellent — no aerosols; pump only
  • Dress in layers and wear comfortable walking shoes
  • For the mail flights, use Warbelow’s facilities before takeoff since the planes don’t have restrooms and most village airstrips don’t either
