49th State Brewing Company  (1:00)

Craft beer, locally sourced food, and a terrific location in the heart of downtown Anchorage all add up to a can’t-miss experience. Dine inside the two-story restaurant, or step upstairs to the rooftop deck for magnificent views of the Alaska Range and Cook Inlet.

The building has a rich history, housing the Elks Lodge in the 1930s. Today, it’s a place where locals feel comfortable and visitors feel welcome. And you won’t walk away hungry—portions of the classic American and award winning pizza are Alaska-sized. If you’re interested in trying Alaskan farm-raised yak, this is the one of the only restaurants in the state that has it. You can also sample other Alaskan specialties, like elk and reindeer (and of course seafood), and try great dishes like the buffalo meatloaf and a housemade Bavarian pretzel. Whenever possible, products are organic and locally sourced.

Beer lovers especially shouldn’t miss the 49th State. IPA aficionados will love the Solstice IPA, and the Belgian-inspired Golden Dall is a gold medal winner.

But it’s not just a restaurant for adults—kids will love the children’s menu, with items like mac and cheese and PB&J’s.
