Classes
Hone your pottery skills by choosing from a variety of classes taught by veteran artists.
Alaska summer series
No experience is necessary to take one of these quick, 1-hour pottery classes, where you’ll get to craft something like a halibut-shaped spoon rest or a cute figurine like an otter or whale. You’ll see how the clay is glazed and fired, and you can have your masterpiece mailed to you—a truly unique souvenir. ($60 (shipping extra); available daily from May through early September; book in advance)
Two-hour classes
During these classes, you’ll create something more complex than the one-hour classes—perhaps a mug, planter, or bird house.
Wheely fun
There’s no project and no agenda—this is more about the experience of throwing on the wheel. You’ll just spend 1.5 hours making whatever you like. No experience? No problem! You’ll end up with a creation like a small dish or bowl.
6-Week Classes
In town for a while or live nearby? Dig into the artistry of pottery with these long-form classes where you meet weekly for 6 weeks. You’ll learn from various instructors who teach all kinds of different classes.
Group events
Founded by local artists, this community-focused studio brings people together through clay—offering classes, events, and the chance to take home art made right here in Alaska.
Creating pottery makes for a great group activity, whether you’re enjoying a family trip, a family reunion, a corporate event, a birthday party, or any kind of team-building experience. You’ll spin up creations alongside your family, friends, and colleagues and get to see what unique pieces everyone creates.
Supply Store
Stock up on any supplies you need to do pottery at home! You’ll find clay, glaze, and other tools of the trade.
About Turnagain Ceramics
Turnagain Ceramics opened in May 2022, founded by lifelong Anchorage residents Evan Fried and Max Kubitz. After discovering their passion for pottery in a local high school program, they set out to create a welcoming space that serves the Anchorage community and provides local makers with access to quality studio facilities. Over time, Turnagain Ceramics has grown into a place where artists and visitors connect—through hands-on classes, community events, and the opportunity to purchase artwork directly from the makers themselves.
