Tanalian Mountain Trail

Difficulty

Difficult

This is the most strenuous of the hiking options in Port Alsworth, but the views are worth the effort. From the summit of Tanalian Mountain, you’ll enjoy a 360-degree view of Lake Clark, Kontrashibuna Lake, and the Chigmit Mountains. The Tanalian Mountain trail is steep with some sections of loose rock. For the first 2.75 miles, the trail travels through forest. The final mile and a half are above tree line; bring sunscreen and plenty of water if you attempt this trail on a warm day. Also, give yourself plenty of time: This trail can take over 8 hours to ascend and descend.
