Get great views with some hands-on fun—combine a scenic flightseeing helicopter tour with the exhilaration of dog mushing on a glacier with a team of huskies!
It’s easy to do—just go with NorthStar Trekking on their Juneau Glacier Dog Sled Adventure. You’ll fly over the Juneau Icefield for about 35 minutes and land in a sled camp on the snow-covered middle branch of the Norris Glacier. Under the instructions of veterans from the legendary Alaskan Iditarod Race, you’ll get the chance to learn everything about mushing. They’ll teach you how to put on the dog harnesses, put on their booties, and to drive the sled yourself. You’ll then set off, mushing at least four miles with your dogs and guide. Help to feed the team along the way, keeping up their energy with snacks. Then visit the dog camp, see the tents and kennel, and see all the effort that goes into caring for the dogs and hear about the experience of living on the glacier. Choose from 60 minutes or an extended adventure of 2.5 hours on the glacier.
Tours run from mid-May through August. Tours subject to operate on four passenger minimums. Tours are for ages 2 and up, as long as you can sit securely in the helicopter seat. Advanced reservations are highly recommended.
