Kluane to Chilkat Bike Relay

The Kluane Chilkat Bike Relay takes place in June, right around the longest day of the year (the summer solstice). The 8-leg relay starts in Haines Junction, Yukon, and ends in Ft. Seward in Haines, a distance of 150 miles. It attracts a wide range of enthusiasts, from serious bike racers to local teams simply out to have a good time. Winning teams have completed the race in less than six hours. And every year, there are a few hard-core athletes who eschew the relay concept and ride the entire route by themselves! Like the Beerfest, the relay attracts tons of visitors, and the Fort Seward Parade Grounds area is packed with tents. This same weekend is traditionally when the Southeast Gillnetter’s Association hosts a king salmon feast at the Southeast Alaska State Fairgrounds, so there is lots of fun to be had.
