With only one independent shuttle and no rideshares or taxis in Denali, a rental car is the most convenient and personal way to make the most of a Denali vacation. The family-run Keys to Denali, just 12 miles from Denali National Park, is the only car rental company actually stationed in Denali.
Operating from May 1 through September, the car-rental service offers sedans, different sizes of SUVs, and 12-passenger vans. Keys to Denali can accommodate guests’ needs if they are one or two people or traveling in a large group. Plus, the company offers pickup and drop-off service from the Denali train depot and tour desk services.
Even better, this car rental comes with a distinctly Alaskan touch. Guests rent from the Miller family, who have developed a deep knowledge and love of the area, thanks to their 37 years of hosting in Denali. Beyond suggesting local activities and restaurants, they provide thoughtful, complimentary touches with their rentals, like loaning good binoculars, walking poles, coolers, bear spray, day packs, reading material, and more. The Millers also run a cozy, 8-room B&B called Denali Dome Home Bed & Breakfast and two vacation rentals.
That personal touch extends through the rental experience. The Millers provide a moving tour desk service by meeting guests at the railroad depot and taking them to the office to process credit cards. And when the car is returned with a full tank of gas, the Millers tag guest’s luggage for collection in the railroad bins. Keys to Denali can even pick guests up and drop them off for an additional fee, which is waived when guests book their train trips, glacier landings, flights, bus tickets, or other reservations with the Millers. Check with the Millers to save time and money on Denali reservations.
Guests should reserve early, as cars are limited and summertime demand is high. Drivers need to be 25 or older, rent with a credit card, not a debit card, and have a valid driver's license and proof of insurance.
