Haines Area Bike Trails & Routes

Many of the main attractions around Haines are accessible by bike. Bikes and ebikes can be rented in Haines. You can peddle around town, or, if you are up for a bit of a climb, make your way over the hill behind Ft. Seward and drop down to the Chilkat River. From there, you can continue another seven miles out to Chilkat State Park.

Going the other direction, its a fairly flat nine-mile ride out to Chilkoot Lake. This road can get a bit crowded on cruise ship days, so plan accordingly.

For a longer ride, you can head out towards the Canadian border. There is often road construction along the Haines Highway so be prepared for delays and rough, unpaved sections. For a multi-day adventure, consider the Golden Circle Route, connecting Haines, Haines Junction, Yukon, Whitehorse, Yukon and Skagway. This 350-mile trip would take about a week and require some camping along the way.

There is no extensive mountain biking trail network in Haines. If you are into mountain biking, there is some backroad exploration to be had up “Sunshine Mountain” and out towards Porcupine Creek. To get there, cross the bridge at the Klehini River at 26 mile Haines Highway and head upriver.
