Franklin Bluffs

This area is named for John Franklin, a British explorer who mapped the arctic coastline and searched for the Northwest Passage. Notice the distinct colors on the east bank of the Sagavanirktok River. The rich yellow, tan, and orange hues are the result of the iron rich soil. This is a good place to stop for a photo and watch for wildlife.
