Location

The cabin is located on the east shore of Emma Lake in the Kenai Wilderness area.

Access

Primary access to the cabin is by boat from the Kasilof River Landing, via the Kasilof River and Tustumena Lake to the north shore of Tustumena Lake and then by hiking the 3.5 mile Emma Lake trail. Emma Lake Trail gains 940 feet of elevation. Note: Emma Lake is closed to public aircraft operations.

Terrain

During the summer/fall of 2004, the Glacier Creek Fire burned areas along the Emma Lake Trail. The trail traverses both mature forests and heavily burned areas. Vegetation re-growth will be ongoing. Cabin is in an upland site 100 yards from the lake and over looking Emma Lake and surrounded by scattered trees, shrubs, grasses, and wildflowers.

Special Features

This cabin offers seclusion, and a wilderness destination. Emma Lake offers fair fishing for Dolly Varden trout and the surrounding area has sightseeing, wildlife viewing and exploring. From the cabin there are trail/routes to access remote "high country" areas. This cabin is also popular for an overnight stop over for hunters and hikers in the fall.

The seclusion of this cabin necessitates being prepared to handle any emergency situation. Inclement weather may cause an unexpected extension of the trip. Boats must be left unattended at Emma Lake Trailhead along the Tustumena Lake shore. Boats should be pulled completely out of the water or otherwise secured when unattended. Bringing a personal cooking stove is recommended. Carry in potable water or boil surface water 5 minutes before drinking. Remember to pack out your trash.
