Lynx

You won't often spy Lynx, but if you're lucky enough to spot one, it is a real treat. A medium-sized cat, these forest shadows range across Alaska. Their paw size, fur thickness, and coloring vary substantially depending upon location. In the south they are darker colored, have shorter hair, and 'normal' paws whereas in the north they become progressively lighter in color, have thicker fur, and expanded paws that may be as large as a human hand. This last adaptation allows them to move freely through heavy snow in search of rabbits and other game.
