Salmon snobs of Alaska will often turn up their noses at Chums because they are thought to be only fit for dog food. However, the Chum is a popular fish on the national and international markets being found usually by the name of Silverbright. In the ocean they are a silvery-blue-green color and once they head for spanwing grounds they get darker and develop streaks of purple on their sides extending down from the dorsal and caudal fin area.
