Willow Aviator Lodge

Enjoy a group getaway in this spacious, charming log home in Willow, just 30 minutes from Talkeetna. With room for 10, the Willow Aviator Lodge is perfect for groups—from girls’ and guys’ getaways to family retreats. And since it’s available for anywhere from 2 to 25 nights, the lodge can be a stopover while touring the state or an amazing extended stay.

The 3,400-square-foot lodge, built with local logs by the owners’ grandparents, sits on 1.5 beautiful acres with a large yard and wraparound deck. Its spot next to a private airstrip means you can relax outside and watch small planes take off and land, which adds to the Alaskan flavor.

Indoors, the home features souvenirs from the grandparents’ travels, as well as pieces of aviation history. Your group will have plenty of room to spread out in the 3 bedrooms—each of which has an Alaskan animal theme—and 3 bathrooms that have double sinks. (Two pullout couches downstairs make for 5 beds total.) You’ll also find an oversized kitchen with a double oven, dining room, living room, a library full of books, and a piano room. Downstairs is a rec room with an “Aviator Lounge”—a vintage bar salvaged from downtown Anchorage.

Perfect for both adults and kids, the lodge offers lots to do, with a pool table, sauna, dance floor with strobe lights, and vintage Nintendo NES system. You can also play outdoor games in the yard and make campfires in the evening.

Then get out and explore the gorgeous local area. Take the lodge’s kayaks out to a nearby lake, go fishing, hike the local trails, or head to beautiful Hatcher Pass. Flightseeing tours, ATV adventures, and dog mushing are all available within a 15 min drive. For meals, you can shop for groceries (10 miles away), go out to eat at Sheep Creek Lodge (8 miles away), or take advantage of the grocery-stocking service (available upon request). And since the lodge is available year-round, make plans to come back in winter to enjoy the area’s amazing snowmobiling.
