Paddle in the stunning Bird’s Nest Bay, a secluded spot featuring calm water and great opportunities to see wildlife.

You’ll begin in downtown Sitka, where you’ll be greeted by the captain and crew and get outfitted with rain gear and life jackets. Then you’ll take a motorized, rigid-hull inflatable on a 15- to 20-minute ride across beautiful Sitka Sound, with the massive volcano Mt. Edgecumbe providing a dramatic backdrop. Look for marine wildlife on your way to a unique float house in a small, protected bay.

Private Paddle With Spectacular Views

This secluded area—where you won’t find many other kayakers—is an ideal spot to paddle. Never done it before? No problem. The expert guides at Alaska Travel Adventures will walk you through everything. You’ll load into two-person kayaks, with one guide for every six kayaks, and set off for about 90 minutes paddling on the water.

It’s a spectacular experience as you’ll kayak across shimmering water. Look for eagle nests and, at low tide, sea stars and sea anemones that cling to the rocks. When the salmon are spawning, you may even see some bears.

Then paddle back to the float house, where you’ll enjoy a snack of clam chowder before zipping back across the Sound in the inflatable, looking for whales and sea lions.
