Exploring the gorgeous area around Talkeetna at any time of year begins at the Talkeetna Gear Shop—an adventure hub offering guided tours, rentals, and used gear.

What’s your passion? Cycling through lush forests? Paddling on serene waters? Snowshoeing or cross-country skiing across snowy winter landscapes? You can do it all through the shop, where you’ll also get a local perspective, maps to local trails and scenic views, and any gear you need.

As you explore, you’ll also get to enjoy stunning views of Denali and the Alaska Range, as well as the chance to see moose, fox, bears, porcupine, eagles and other wildlife. Wintertime night tours bring the added bonus of stargazing and looking for the northern lights.

All tours are private, highly customizable for your group’s ability levels, and led by professional guides who are also passionate local residents. Tours are family-friendly and can accommodate most ages. Bike tours offer kid trailers for kids ages 2–5, while older kids can ride their own bikes if they like.

The shop is also a great place to drop in, just to browse and chat with the staff, who are happy to offer free trail maps and advice. Shop local art or score great deals on gently used outdoor gear.

Summer Tours (May–September)

Explore Talkeetna Guided Bike Tour

This 2-hour tour is a great way to hit the trails and get a flavor for the area accompanied by a local guide. Choose a standard or electric mountain bike and get great views of Denali and the Alaska Range as you explore forests and lakes.

Bike & Brew Tour

Follow the paved path or check out trail detours on this 12-mile self-guided ride to the tasting room of Denali Brewing. Enjoy a pizza and 2 drinks per person, then hop on the shuttle for the return trip.

Bike & Birch Tour

Love syrup and sweets? This tour’s for you. You’ll bike to Kahiltna Birch Works for a syrup-making tour and tasting, then enjoy an ice cream treat and return on the shuttle.

Rein & Ride Tour

Meet some reindeer! On this tour, you’ll bike to Reindeer Grove and check out these majestic creatures. You’ll also get a guided tour of a homestead and learn about the area’s native plants. Light snacks are included.

Pedal & Paddle Tour

Why stop at one sport? Bike to X Lake in the lush Talkeetna Lakes Park, then hop in a kayak for a guided tour on the water, where you’ll explore quiet coves and forested shorelines.

Ultimate Talkeetna Tour

Get it all! This option combines all of the summer tours into an unforgettable full-day experience. Go biking and kayaking, meet reindeer, and enjoy ice cream, pizza, and drinks. All shuttles and gear are included.

Winter Tours (December–March)

Nordic Ski Tour

This 2-hour, guided cross-country ski tour is perfect for beginners and intermediates. Glide through the forests and over frozen lakes surrounded by gorgeous, snow-blanketed landscapes. Includes all gear and optional instruction.

Fat Bike Tour

On this 2-hour guided tour, you’ll tackle snowy trails on a fat-tire standard or electric bike, with routes chosen to match the group’s skill level.

Night Sky Snowshoe Tour

Explore Alaska at night. This 2- to 3-hour tour begins around 10 p.m. and is a great opportunity to stargaze and look for the northern lights. Snowshoes and warm beverages are included; you can choose to upgrade to skis or bikes.
