Suzan Nightingale McKay Memorial Park

1.4 acres Located on the western edge of Government Hill, this park has several acres of grass and a few trees, a small playground, and a beautiful locally maintained flower garden—plus, the benefit of backing up to a number of residences with nice gardens and treed areas. Despite its views of Denali (Mt. McKinley), Mt. Foraker, & Mt. Hunter—look for the heavy, brass post that lists the direction and elevations of these mountains—this park sees few visitors, so you’ll get those views to yourself.

Features

On-street parking. Play equipment suitable for 2-5 year olds, as well as 5-12 year olds. Picnic tables, benches, Sydney Laurence monument.

History

The park was originally called McKinley View Park. In 1997 the community requested the name be changed to Suzan Nightingale McKay Memorial Park. They wanted to honor her for her contributions to the community and this was approved in 1998. She will be remembered as a writer, journalist & respected teacher who passed away in 1996.
