Discovery the beautiful scenery, Alaska Native culture, and Gold Rush history of Nome
Even by Alaska’s standards, Nome is a magical place. Set on the edge of the Bering Sea, the town is full of gorgeous scenery, Alaska Native culture, and Gold Rush history, as well as being the finish line for the famous Iditarod Sled Dog Race. And the best way to see it is on a tour with longtime Nome resident Carol Hobbs.
Passionate about Nome, Carol customizes the tours around the interests of her small groups to make them as special and interesting as possible. She can fill you in on area history while letting you know what it’s like to live, work, and raise a family in Nome.
The Tours
- Historical City Tour: This 1.5-hour, small-group tour walks through the significant landmarks of downtown Nome, where you’ll learn about the Gold Rush era.
- Guided Beach Walk: Scan the shore for beach glass and other treasures while Carol fills you in on the significance of the shoreline and the history of Nome.
- Day Hikes: The area boasts lots of unforgettable scenic hikes. Shoot Carol a note with what kind of hike you’re interested in and she’ll tell you about some options perfect for you.
- Custom Tour Planning: Put your Nome experience in Carol’s expert hands and have her map out your visit with whatever mix of guided and unguided exploration suits you. You could hit the historical and natural highlights, like Swanberg Dredge, Safety Roadhouse, and Safety Sound (with a stop at the beach there), and visit beautiful spots like Solomon and Skookum Pass.
