Palmer Spur

Site where the US Government Emergency Relief Administration brought some 900 agricultural colonists from Michigan, Minnesota & Wisconsin to the Matanuska Valley in May 1935 to initiate farming in the Mat-Su Valley. A failed effort initially for those who traveled to Alaska for a new life but became a boom for the Alaska Railroad and subsequently was successful for opening the area for agricultural development those farmers who remained.
