There are few things more authentically Alaskan than staying in a cozy, rustic yurt. And out on the Kenai Peninsula, Moose Pass Adventures combines 1 or 2 nights in a Mongolian-style handmade yurt with private, guided backcountry hiking and kayaking adventures for 2 to 8 people, including delicious meals and a waterproof backpack to use for gear.

The handcrafted yurts feature bunk beds with thick, expedition-style camp mattresses and warm sleeping bags to ensure a warm, dry night’s rest, surrounded by the Alaskan wilderness. Even visiting the outhouse offers an opportunity to take in stunning views.

The trips are an opportunity to immerse yourself in the backcountry and are perfect for everyone from experienced outdoors lovers to those who have never kayaked or stayed in a yurt before.

Overnight Grant Lake Kayak Tour & Yurt Stay

This 2-day guided, private tour for 2 to 8 people begins with a short paddle across glacier-fed Trail Lake—a serene body of water that makes for easy paddling, where you’ll hear stories of the small town of Moose Pass, full of Gold Rush and Iditarod history. Back on land, you’ll set off on a moderately strenuous mile-long hike—trailside lunch included—along part of the Iditarod National Historic Trail. You’ll climb up and over a ridge, taking in the stunning blue of remote Grant Lake, and make your way to the yurt. Settle in and enjoy a delicious BBQ dinner with s’mores by the fire. You’ll find kayaks here as well, if you want to take one out for an evening paddle on Grant Lake. After a good night’s rest, dig in to a warm breakfast amid the birdsong-filled wilderness, before kayaking and hiking back.

3-Day Grant Lake Kayak Adventure & Yurt Stay

Similar to the 2-day trip, this expedition begins by paddling across serene Trail Lake in Historic Moose Pass. Hear stories of this small Alaskan town as you kayak along the lake’s shoreline for about a mile. Then embark on a 1-mile moderate hike that includes a section of the Iditarod National Historic Trail and a climb to a ridge overlooking the stunning blue waters of remote, glacially carved Grant Lake. Make your way to the yurt—your basecamp for the next 2 nights—and enjoy a frontier-style BBQ and s’mores. Do some more kayaking if you like before a peaceful night’s sleep. Start the next day with campfire coffee, Alaskan birdsong, and a delicious breakfast. Then decide on the day’s plan, which could include a guided exploration of stunning Grant Lake by kayak. Look for wildlife, take in the surrounding wilderness, and enjoy lunch at a pull-out spot before heading back to the cozy yurts, another delicious dinner, and another night surrounded by Alaska’s magic. In the morning, enjoy another warm breakfast before beginning the journey back to Moose Pass
