Facilities

1 double plywood bunk, 1 single plywood bunk, Sleeping loft, Table and benches, Wood stove, Cooking counter, Broom, Outhouse toilet, Axe or splitting maul. Water available from nearby stream, 100 feet (30 m) away from cabin. Treat all water before using.

Location

12 miles (19 km) south of Sitka on Baranof Island.

Access

10-minute float plane ride or a 40-minute boat ride from Sitka.

Terrain

Natural clearing surrounded by dense spruce and hemlock forest. Gently sloping sand pebble beach from water to cabin.

Special Features

Cabin faces southeast overlooking a peaceful cove. To the southeast are vistas of snow-capped peaks overlooking Redoubt Bay. Fishing for sockeye and coho salmon during August at Redoubt Lake, about 30 minutes away by boat. Popular Goddard Hot Springs is about 8 miles (13 km) or a 20-minute boat ride to the south. Deer and brown bear. Deer hunting is possible in season.

What To Bring

Sleeping bags, sleeping pads, cooking stove, lantern, pots, pans, plates, utensils, food, toilet paper, garbage bags, fire extinguisher and fire starter and raingear and rubber boots. It's a good idea to bring your own water.

While cabin location offers safe protected boat anchorage, occasionally area does experience high wind gusts from the southeast or from Redoubt Lake area. Mooring buoy available on first-come, first-served basis. Cabin not maintained during the winter; wood can be in short supply. DO NOT leave food behind when vacating this cabin. Pack out all gear that you bring. Cabin built in 1998 by local volunteers.
