When is a golf course more than a golf course? When it’s the 9-hole, par-3 golf course in Homer, Alaska. Sure, you can play a round on this scenic course—fun fact: it’s the last golf course in America at “the end of the road”, and the only golf course in Homer, Alaska —but it’s also a great spot to just relax with a beer or a glass of wine and take in the truly stunning views. And conveniently, it’s right next door to a gorgeous home you can rent: La Fin de la Route. In fact, the winning combination was named as one of the top places to stay and play in the U.S. by Golf magazine in 2019!

A Community Effort

Homer is a unique city, making it the perfect place for a unique golf course. Built one hole at a time starting in 1982, the course was based on the honor system: Its founder would simply collect donations in a coffee can from golfers who wanted to play. Even in his late 90’s Dave still hits the opening shot at the course every year, and can be caught from time to time just relaxing in the Adirondack chairs taking it all in.

Views of Kachemak Bay

Today, you’ll play across the course’s 10 acres of manicured lawns, set against a dramatic background of ocean and mountains (which appear even bigger than when you’re on the Homer Spit). No clubs? No problem! They have everything you need to enjoy the experience.

Non-Golfers Welcome!

And while the Homer Golf Course is a great place for everyone from beginners to pros, it’s also a wonderful spot for non-golfers, where you can sit out on the Adirondack chairs and enjoy the view with your favorite beverage. Get off the spit and come warm up at the golf course. The weather is always better out there. Usually about 10 degrees warmer and very little wind. It could be raining in town and sunny on the course.

You’ll also find fun weekly wine tastings. And with a great dinner spot, the Homestead, right up the road, you can enjoy a glass of wine at the golf course before heading off to dinner.
