Description

16ft x 20ft three-room Pan-Abode log cabin.

Facilities

2 single plywood bunks, 2 double plywood bunks, Table and benches, Wood stove and firewood, Cooking counter, Ax/Maul/Splitting Wedges, Food cupboard and shelves, Broom, Outhouse toilet, Floating dock (state-maintained). Water is available from a creek next to the cabin. Treat all water before using.

Cleveland Peninsula north of Ketchikan

Location

Behind Forss Island on west shore of Helm Bay, 24 miles (39 km) from Ketchikan or 12 miles (19 km) from the Clover Pass area.

Access

Float plane or boat. State-maintained floating dock (not connected to the shore) near the cabin.

Terrain

Old-growth Sitka spruce and western hemlock rain forest adjacent to a large salt water tide flat.

Special Features

Area is especially noted for crab, salmon, halibut, and red snapper. Sitka blacktail deer, mountain goat, black bear, brown bear, and seals in area.

Please conserve firewood; supplied firewood is for wood stove use only. Collect your own beach/driftwood for campfires. Cabin reservation does not include exclusive use of the dock. Dock is on first-come, first-serve basis. More than one vessel is allowed if first party there agrees.
