The Experience

Staying in remote Alaska typically involves a tradeoff, like a cabin without running water or one that’s uncomfortably rustic. Glacier Hut is the extremely rare Alaskan property that offers wilderness solitude without sacrificing comfort.

Built by hand (even the foundation was hand-dug, with shovels) and completed in 2024, Glacier Hut features a modern industrial design and comes packed with amenities: running water, a hot shower, fully equipped modern kitchen, solar-powered electrical system, and even a sauna. It’s set on a bluff amid dramatic glacier and mountain scenery, complete with a large, sun-drenched deck to take it all in.

Inside, you’ll find an open studio-style living area and dining space, with leather recliners and unique architectural details like exposed steel beams and custom-welded furniture. The hut comfortably sleeps 4, with room for 2 more if needed. Both the upstairs loft and main floor have two twin mattresses that can convert into a king, with 2 more foam mattresses available for 2 more guests.

You can only get there via plane or helicopter, which the owners can help arrange or you can set up on your own. Once there, you’ll have the entire valley to yourself for hiking, glacier exploration, and looking for wildlife like bears, mountain goats, marmots, and birds.

Of course, not everyone will feel comfortable setting off into the remote Alaskan wilderness alone (FYI, the cabin has Internet access for emergencies, along with a handheld emergency radio). If you’d like to hire a professional Alaskan guide with experience in this area to lead your group on some unforgettable hikes, Glacier Hut can set you up with the pros at Revel Treks and Tours.

Food is BYO. There’s a fully equipped kitchen, refrigerator, and cooler, as well as a small outdoor grill. Stay more than 5 nights and the owners will provide a complimentary, mid-stay grocery drop-off flight.

Families with children are welcome, and Glacier Hut is great for honeymoons, anniversaries, and elopements!
