Facilities

3 single wooden bunks, 1 double bunk, Table and bench, Oil stove (burns #1 stove oil, NOT supplied), Cooking counter, Food cupboard and shelves, Broom and dustpan, Cooler, Shovel and bucket, Rake, Outhouse, Emergency signal, Mooring buoy. Water available from nearby stream. Treat all water before using.

37 miles (60 km) NW of Juneau, 8 miles (13 km) N of Echo Cove boat.

Access

By saltwater via boat or plane. Sand beach at low-medium tides for floatplane dropoff.

Terrain

Mossy old-growth forest on challenging but hikable slope.

Special Features

Excellent views of Antler and Berner's River deltas and Lion's Head Mountain. Chilkat Range also visible from beach. Excellent base for recreational opportunities. Large deck in front of cabin with view of birds, sea mammals, and occasional mink. Abundant blueberries, some wild crabapples. Salt water fishing, mountain goat and bear hunting in season. Check Alaska Department of Fish and Game regulations.

Mooring buoy about 200 feet from high tide mark in front of cabin. Dinghy or 450-foot shore tie rope advised for anchoring to buoy. Buoy anchor awash at 0 foot low tides; tilt up your stern drive or outboard. (Only underwater obstructions near buoy are flat concrete anchor weights protruding 6 inches above sand and mud.) Consult local tide tables. Bears frequent area.
