The Battery Point Trail leads to two, more private beaches used by locals, where skinny-dipping on a hot day isn’t out of the norm. Kelgaya Point Beach, located about one mile out on the trail, is more heavily used, as many hikers turn around here. The trail’s actual end, .7 miles south at Battery Point Cove, is a better spot for a quick dip into frigid water. Its warmest when the tide is coming in. The “battery” in the point’s name derives from batteries that once powered a shore-side navigation marker there. It’s solar-powered now. No amenities.
