Overview

  • Anchor River State Rec Area sits near the mouth of the Anchor River off the Sterling Highway. Within the state recreation site there are 5 distinct camping areas: Coho Campground, Silverking Campground, Slidehole Campground, Steelhead Campground, and Halibut Campground. Combined, there are 186 campsites, mostly utilized by campers looking to fish for salmon, beachcomb along the inlet, or enjoy the coastal scenery, with Anchor Point’s small-town vibe nearby...

Most camping areas are open gravel areas. There are vault toilets and fire rings, with beach and river access.

  • Access: Reachable via paved turnoffs from the Sterling Highway; it’s about a 4.5-hour drive south from Anchorage or 15 minutes from Homer.
  • Seasonal Accessibility: Open May through September.
