Yakutat Forelands
Location
55 miles (88 km) southeast of Yakutat on the Yakutat Forelands, about 1 mile (1.6 km) from the Alsek River.
Access
Wheel plane, with an 1800ft x 50ft airstrip at the cabin. There are no trails to the cabin.
Terrain
The terrain is flat and very wet. The area around the cabin is predominantly open muskeg with dense patches of alder, cottonwood and willow. Hip boots are recommended for hiking in this area.
Special Features
Excellent moose hunting. Both brown and black bear are common in this area. Sandhill cranes land in the vicinity during spring and fall migrations. Excellent berry picking for wild strawberries on the airstrip.
