Experience Alaska-style fishing at its finest! When in Seward, head out on the water with Alaska Northern Outfitters on their comfortable catamaran – the Sea Quest -- for an epic day of fishing for halibut, salmon, and rockfish.
A Day on the Water
Go fishing with the pros out of Seward for iconic Alaskan fish. You’ll be aboard the M/V Sea Quest—a 46-foot catamaran that’s the only charter vessel in Seward with an upper viewing deck. This lets you sightsee or have lunch on the upper deck while watching the action below. A favorite among locals, the Sea Quest is not only the largest of the town’s big boats, it’s also the newest and fastest, which lets you travel further and faster to get where the fish are. By design, catamarans are wider and more stable than any other boat—great news for those prone to seasickness. Inside you’ll find a large and heated interior, indoor seating for everyone, tables, and unlimited coffee and tea.
Then it’s time to fish! Captain and vessel owner, Sean Carlin, and his professional crew are out every day, sharing their passion for fishing with everyone onboard. The Sea Quest only uses high-quality gear, from top of the line rod and reel down to the tackle and hook. Whether you’re a pro yourself or have never wet a line before, Capt. Sean and the crew will ensure you have an epic fishing experience. Depending on the time of the season, you may be fishing for huge halibut, silver salmon, or rockfish. On some days, you’ll only have to go as far as Resurrection Bay, just offshore, which offers up a 22-mile-long fishery with some of the best silver salmon fishing anywhere (in fact, in August Seward hosts the largest silver salmon derby). Whatever you catch, Alaska Northern Outfitters will fillet it (one of the deckhands is a sushi chef!) and bag it for you, then walk with you back to the dock where you can get it vacuum-packed, frozen, or shipped home.
Alaska Northern Outfitters prides itself on being the first boat out and the last boat in each day, ensuring everyone has maximum opportunity to get their catch.
Fishing Charter Options
May–June. Enjoy a full day of angling for huge, trophy-size halibut. The boat leaves the dock at 6:00 am each morning and returns around 5-7:30 p.m. Aboard the Sea Quest every passenger gets a free derby ticket during the month of June to participate in the Annual Seward Halibut Tournament!
Halibut & Salmon Combo Fishing
July 1 – September 2. While some trips during this period still focus solely on halibut, most of the outings aboard the Sea Quest will target halibut as well as silver salmon, (and also rockfish if time allows).
Salmon & Rockfish Combo Fishing
July – August, Tuesdays & Wednesdays. This combination trip allows anglers to focus on the bright orange yelloweye rockfish, or the black rockfish, as well as coho or “silver” salmon, the species for which Seward is famous.
Kenai Fjords Wildlife and Glacier Sightsee and Fishing
May – June (Tuesdays & Wednesdays only) Only have one day in Seward? Get the best of both worlds on this trip that includes sightseeing in Kenai Fjords National Park as well as fishing. This full-day adventure has a late departure (7am) so it’s ideal for cruise passengers too. Guests return to Seward between 5pm and 7pm. Look for whales, porpoise, sea lions, sea otters, puffins, mountain goats, bald eagles, and more. Marvel at Bear Glacier. Then, angle for rockfish, early-season salmon, and Pacific Cod.
Share the Pole!
Add to any trip! Alaska Northern Outfitters is the only company in Alaska with a share the rod option, where you may share the pole with a full fare angler on any trip. This is ideal for a child, spouse, or photographer to enjoy the day with you – and Alaskan Northern Outfitters has enough permits for both the primary and companion anglers to each catch their limit! Companions are limited to 8 anglers and are on a first come first served basis.
