Van transfer pick up by Discovery staff at 10:00am for the scenic ride along Turnagain Arm, known for it’s tremendous tidal flats and frequent sightings of Beluga Whales. Continue south through the Chugach mountains to rendezvous with the captain and crew in Whittier for a warm welcome aboard the Discovery. While the crew prepares for departure, relax in the Discovery’s cozy salon and enjoy specially prepared appetizers of smoked salmon or halibut spread with crackers, fresh baked breads, fruits, and a plentiful selection of fine beverages.
After leaving Whittier, you will make your way leisurely through Passage Canal towards Eaglek Bay, taking time to watch for humpback whales, sea lions, tufted puffins, and other wildlife active in the area. If the salmon are running, there may be the opportunity to watch a fishing boat at work. Or, you might take the Zodiak ashore for a short hike if there is interest.

Depending on interests, this day will unfold accordingly. Spend the morning exploring the wonders of Harriman Fjord and Surprise Glacier. Countless waterfalls of every description cascade down from out of almost nowhere. Sea otters and harbor seals haul out on the floating ice which has recently crashed from the glacial face with a thunderous roar into the fiord in front of you. Hike along the shore among beached icebergs stranded by the ebbing tide, or take an upland hike for broad spectacular views of the Chugach mountain range and glacial valleys. Return to Anchorage in the evening.
