Single Delight
Moneses uniflora
Pyrolaceae/Wintergreen Family
This small delicate wintergreen grows in shady locations in moist moss on the forest floor. It is 3-6" tall and grows from a whorl of oval leaves at the base. Each leafless stem bears one fragrant, nodding flower with 5 waxy, white petals. Another common name is Shy Maiden which is a beautiful description for this delicate beauty.
Moneses comes from the Greek monos (one) and heisa (delight).
