16ft x 16ft A-frame cabin with a sleeping loft, reached by a vertical ladder.

Facilities

1 double plywood bunk, Sleeping loft, Table and attached benches, Wood stove, 8ft cooking counter, Broom, Outhouse toilet, Axe or splitting maul. Water is available from a nearby stream. Treat all water before using.

22 miles (35 km) southeast of Sitka on Baranof Island.

Access

1 1/2-hour boat ride from Sitka.

Terrain

Cabin is surrounded by nearly flat terrain at the head of Seven Fathom Bay.

Special Features

Many hiking opportunities even though there are no established trails. The City and Borough of Sitka provide hot tubs on a first-come first-served basis at Goddard Hot Springs north of the cabin about 20 minutes by boat. Access to South Baranof Wilderness Area is within 5 minutes by boat. Deer and brown bear frequent the area. Saltwater fishing and deer hunting are possible. Historical Note: This cabin was built in April 1991 by a group of local Sitka residents interested in volunteering their time to construct the cabin.

What To Bring

Sleeping bags, sleeping pads, cooking stove, lantern, pots, pans, plates, utensils, food, toilet paper, garbage bags, fire extinguisher and fire starter, rain gear and boots. It's a good idea to bring your own water.
