Of all the accessible hiking trails near Kake, the Portage Bay Trail is the closest to town (just over a mile south). Salmon and trout can be viewed in this area, along with other species they attract: eagle and black bear. You may also see ducks. In late summer, look for berry bushes along the 1-mile trail.

From Kake, drive south on Keku Road, past the boat harbor. Turn right to access a beach road that leads to Kake Tribal Logging Log Transfer Site and park along the road.
