You will pleasantly surprised by the wide variety of gifts and toys for kids hidden throughout. Lots of people who stop in at this Alaskan-owned, independent bookstore near Gate C 2 are just looking for a good read for the flight back to the Lower 48. You'll certainly find one: it stocks lots of good fiction— including mysteries, thrillers and bestsellers and books by Alaskan authors. But it also offers hundreds of books on Alaskan history, culture and even military history—a popular section, given the military's longtime presence in these parts.
Named after the insect that, some joke, could be Alaska's state bird, the bookstore also makes a great stop for travelers who've just landed in Alaska. You can pick up guidebooks, regional maps, hiking trail maps, or even a nice journal to log your travels or wildlife sightings.
A lot of the books here also make great gifts: gorgeous tabletop books of Alaska photographs, or fun, Alaska-themed children's books—such as an Alaska ABC book, picture books about Denali, or a book about a cat who lives with an Iditarod sled dog team.
In 2015, Mosquito Books partnered with their family store, The Kobuk, to add teas, tea accessories, sweets and treats to the bookstore space. The Kobuk To Go side of the shop is chock full of locally blended teas and yummy candies to enjoy in the moment or take home to family and friends.
