This trip combines gourmet dining with a scenic raft trip along the gentle waters of the Chena River. Your tour begins in Fairbanks with a 40-minute ground tour north of Fairbanks to the famed Two Rivers Lodge. Located in a rustic log building, Two Rivers has been serving Alaskans gourmet meals since the pioneer days. Among your dinner selections are wild Alaska salmon, New York steak and chicken Oscar topped with King crab. Meals are served with seasonal vegetables, coffee, iced tea and dessert.
Following dinner you’ll depart for a leisurely hour and a half-long float down the clear waters of the Chena River. Located in the Chena State Recreation Area, the Chena River supports runs of Arctic grayling and Yukon River King and Chum salmon. Although wildlife viewings can be unpredictable, this area is home to beaver, martin, river otter and bald eagles as well as moose and brown and black bear. At the end of your journey you’ll have the opportunity to glimpse wilderness living at the log home of your hosts, Joe and Vicki Letarte.
This excursion is a unique way to see the remote wilderness around Fairbanks and enjoy authentic Alaskan cuisine. The flat waters of the Chena River make this trip appropriate for all ages.
