This green and blue glacial lake is studded with house-sized icebergs and fed by Colony Glacier—it’s like Portage Lake on steroids. You may feel like you’re in the middle of nowhere—no roads come near here—but you’re only 50 miles from Anchorage, easily accessible by air taxi. You can come here to hike around the shore—unlike a lot of hiking areas in Alaska, there’s no brush to whack through—touch icebergs that have floated to land, or borrow the canoe that someone has left behind and paddle around the waters. It’s also great for just relaxing with a picnic lunch.
