If you’ve come to Alaska to seek out salmon, the town of Kasilof, in the heart of the Kenai Peninsula, is a gold mine of opportunity. This family-owned, private resort and lodge right on the Kasilof River offers homey accommodations, as well as all the gear and guidance you need to catch your limit in kings, silvers, reds, steelhead and trout. But the Gallery Lodge isn’t just about fish: the B&B also has enough space for family reunions, as well as having an on-site theater and art studio to entertain any non-anglers in your group.
Opened in 2007 by the Mays family, the Gallery Lodge is comprised of two buildings, overlooking the Kasilof River. You’re in a prime location on the Kenai Peninsula, too: Besides having the Kasilof River just out your window, you're a half hour, at most, from the Kenai River, about 30 minutes from Soldotna, and 2 hours from Seward (meanwhile, you’re three hours south of Anchorage). That means you have easy access to anything you’d want to do in the area known as Alaska's playground: rafting, kayaking, hiking, whale watching, bear viewing, as well as plenty of chances to just sit and soak up scenery.
But if your main goal is to fish, you never have to leave the immediate area around the B&B. You can book a 7-day fishing package for $2,000 that includes your lodging, daily self-serve breakfast, three days of fishing with box lunch, fishing gear and a local professional guide service.
Just staying at the lodge, you also get a complimentary, self-serve breakfast every day, and access to the on-site art studio, set up to get you started on great sketches down by the riverbank. During the evening, you can relax in the theater room, which has Dish TV projected onto the wall, surround sound, and comfy bean bags.
All rooms include Dish TV, DVD player, WiFi and ethernet. You also have access to a full kitchen, a deck with BBQ and laundry facilities (the house even has its own kitchen, laundry and BBQ). You can choose from the following:
- One 2-Bedroom Home, the Riverview, which can sleep 4-6 comfortably. Includes its own kitchen, a great room with sofa bed, Dish TV, DVD player, free WIFI, deck with BBQ. $250 a night.
- Two Gallery Suites (which sleep 2-4 each), with king beds convertible to twin long beds, and a day bed with pull out single bed. Includes a large bathroom with shower and double sinks, a mini fridge, microwave, coffee pot. $190 a night, $25 per extra person.
- Two Potters Rooms with a shared bath down the hall. Rooms have a queen bed with pull-out single bed, sink, mini fridge, microwave, coffee pot. $130 a night, $25 per extra person.
