Seavey's Ididaride Sled Dog Tours have been
voted “Best Sled Dog Ride and Tour in Alaska” by Alaska
Magazine. Visit Iditarod Champion Mitch Seavey's homestead, home
to three generations of Iditarod mushers. Experience an exciting
2-mile real dog sled ride, tour the racing kennel, meet the dogs,
cuddle adorable husky puppies and listen to stories from the trail.
On this tour, you’ll get
to visit the home to one of the
oldest and most prominent sled
dog racing teams in the world and
spend time with champion sled dogs
that Mitch Seavey has trained and
raced. Mitch Seavey has run the
famed Iditarod many times, winning
the race in 2004. His father was
one of the founders of the race,
and his sons compete in it now
as well.
When the dogs get hitched up, an Iditarod
finisher guides the custom-wheeled
sled through a mile of rainforest,
emerging into a river-cut canyon surrounded
by mountains. Next, you’ll return
to the kennel to meet some of the 75
dogs and cuddle with their puppies
while learning what it’s like
to race out on the frozen tundra.
Real Alaska
The best way
to see Seward in a day! This all-day
tour is guided by a life-long Alaskan
and is a great way to get an overview
of some of the highlights of living
in Alaska.
First, you’ll tour
historic downtown Seward, one of Alaska’s
oldest communities. Then continue on
to Mount Marathon and visit “Mile
0” of the Iditarod
trail.
You’ll continue on to Kenai
Fjords National Park and take a
short walk right up to the face
of famous Exit Glacier. This is
a good chance to learn about the
history, flora, and fauna of the
area while keeping an eye out for
moose, bear, mountain goats, and
spawning salmon.
Sit down for lunch at the Resurrection
Roadhouse. Then finish off the
day by heading back to the Seavey
kennels for the Wilderness Sled
Dog Ride and Tour, described above.
