Kachemak Bay Wilderness Lodge image

Michael and Diane McBride, the founders and owners of Kachemak Bay Wilderness Lodge, built their reputation on customized, expert guiding services. With eight skilled and experienced staffers for approximately a dozen guests, you’ll enjoy a level of personalization that’s hard to beat. Fill your stay with sea kayak tours, wildlife and birding boat excursions, hikes to glaciers and alpine lakes, and more. Fill your stomach with gourmet cuisine, from the cocktail-hour seafood smorgasbords to the five-course dinners.

The lodge’s five private chalets are situated along spectacular China Poot Bay, each offering breathtaking views of the ocean and mountains. Though charmingly rustic in design, they’re decked out with creature comforts, from private bathrooms to high-speed Internet. With uber-personalized attention, a 15-guest maximum, and a wilderness setting, it’s easy to feel as though you have the entire place to yourself.

Extend your stay at the lodge with a weekend trip to Loongsong Mountain Lake Chalet, surrounded by wilderness in the Alaskan high country. A 30 – minute scenic floatplane ride will transport you to the chalet in time for dinner on Friday. On Monday after lunch, you’ll be flown directly back to Homer. Perfect for a family or two couples traveling together, this resort is booked exclusively as an add-on to your stay at Kachemak Bay Wilderness Lodge. Enjoy great hiking and fishing, relax in a traditional Finnish sauna, and take pleasure in personal attention from the McBrides themselves, who’ll handle the gourmet meals and all-day guiding service.

Meet the locals
Clem Tillion "When we were first married, the last steamer went out in October and didn't come back until April! There were no doctors, dentists, or electricity. I walked 300 miles to get to Homer, before the Sterling Highway was built."
