Hop
aboard a narrow-gauge train and get
ready to stake your claim to gold on
this two-hour tour of El Dorado Gold
Mine. Learn all about how 100,000 gold
rushers fought the permafrost in their
quest to get rich, then grab some gold
of your own!
The tour begins as you
board the train and travel to a historic,
working gold mine that looks as it
would have when gold fever first swept
across America. As conductor Earl Hughes
plays songs from days gone by and spins
yarns about early Alaska, you'll travel
below ground to a permafrost tunnel
and meet a gold miner who can read
bedrock like a book. You'll roll by
a log cabin that would have served
as refuge for hard-working prospectors.
Then pull into a working gold camp
where the real fun begins. Local miners
Dexter and Yukon Yonda have been operating
small mines for more than 25 years,
and they'll teach you all about modern
mining techniques-in other words, what
it will take to get rich with gold!
Then you'll try your hand at gold panning-the
water's even heated for you. Here's
a tip: you're guaranteed to find gold.
Enjoy complimentary coffee and fresh-baked
cookies in the gift shop as your gold
is weighed, then you'll board the train
and return to the station.
