Most Popular Tours
Up Ship Creek Without a Paddle
Ship Creek is a well-known spot for anglers, but most people haven’t explored its upper reaches, at alpine lakes high in the Chugach Mountains. The city of Anchorage recedes within minutes as you fly east into the wilderness along Ship Creek, past the Ft. Richardson hydroelectric dam, and through Arctic Valley. Along the way, watch for moose and the occasional bear. Your tour continues along toward Indian Pass and circles back to approach Anchorage from the southeast, along Turnagain Arm. From this vantage point, you’ll have great views of Mount Susitna, and opportunities to spot mountain goats, Dall sheep and maybe even beluga whales swimming up the Arm. Land back at Merrill Field, having seen Anchorage’s backyard from a viewpoint that many locals haven’t even enjoyed.
Knik Glacier Landing
Within 45 minutes of take-off, Tanalian’s signature tour will have you standing on glacier ice that is thousands of years old. Knik Glacier is 25 miles long and boasts a 5-mile wide face. Approaching the glacier, you’ll see its craggy blue ice, deep crevasses, glacial rivers and waterfalls. A steep descent onto the glacier highlights the accessibility of helicopter travel, as you land and begin to explore immediately. (Your guide will offer crampons for better traction on the ice). After a 30-minute landing, you’ll climb back with views of several other glaciers, the Knik River gorge and possible wildlife sightings on the way back. Reservations are recommended for this popular excursion – and be sure to wear warm clothing.
Lake George Glacier Landing
Our most affordable landing, this tour includes 30-minutes flightseeing over bluffs and valley flats known for mountain goats and moose. We will land at Lake George Glacier or Knik Glacier depending on weather and glacier topography. Bring your camera and a water bottle to capture the glories of creation and the pure, blue glacier water. Enjoy once-in-a-lifetime photo opportunities and experience year-round bird’s eye views of glacial crevasses, moulins, glacial rivers, and water falls. Instead of departing from Anchorage, this tour takes off from the stunning Knik River Valley, just 45-minutes north of Anchorage. No car? No problem. Tanalian offers a shuttle service.
