Description

20ft x 20ft (6 m x 6 m) modified A-frame cabin with sleeping loft, partially covered deck on three sides, wooden cooler box for food storage.

Facilities

2 single plywood bunks, 1 with trundle, Sleeping loft with ladder, Wooden table and Benches, Wood stove, Broom, Woodshed (wood provided), Splitting maul, Outhouse toilet, Fire grill, Mooring buoy. Water available from small stream. Treat all water before using.

Location

NW Etolin Island on east shore of Steamer Bay.

Access

By boat 27 miles (43 km) or float plane 25 miles (40 km) west from Wrangell. This cabin is ADA accessible.

Terrain

Mountainous, covered primarily with Sitka spruce, western hemlock cedar rainforest; muskeg also common.

Special Features

King salmon (May - July), silver salmon (Aug - Sept), halibut (June - Sept) in nearby saltwater. Clam digging, crabbing in Steamer Bay. Dolly Varden, pink salmon (July - Aug) in nearby Porcupine Creek. Brown bear, Black bear, elk, porcupine, deer, waterfowl Gravel beach next to cabin; beachcombing on nearby islands and rocky shores Cabin overlooks Steamer Bay, Clarence Strait

Large rock outcroppings on beach surround cabin. Use caution when anchoring boat due to rocky shoreline. Occasionally poor weather can result in extended stays; cabin users should be prepared for this. Wood stove for heat only.
