15 air miles (24 km), 40 water miles (64 km) from Petersburg on east side of Duncan Canal Salt Chuck on northern Kupreanof Island.

Access

Float plane or boat from Petersburg or Wrangell. 14ft tide needed to reach cabin; rapids south of the Salt Chuck navigable only at high slack tide.

Fishing for Steelhead trout, Coho salmon; hunting for bear, grouse, waterfowl. Portage Mountain Loop Trail, which links Salt Chuck East to Portage Bay and Petersburg Lake Cabins, passes behind the cabin. (See Petersburg Ranger District Hiking Trails guide).
