Access

15 miles (24 km) by float plane or 25 miles (40 km) by boat from Petersburg.

Terrain

Hilly along eastern shore of Portage Bay, flat and rolling south and west of bay, with Portage Mountain rising to 3,577ft (1090 m) in background.

Special Features

Excellent halibut fishing in mouth of Portage Bay. Coho and, pink salmon, steelhead, trout fishing in Portage Creek. Black bear, waterfowl, grouse hunting. Primitive 10.5 mile (17 km) Portage Mountain Trail connects cabin, Petersburg Lake cabin and Salt Chuck East cabin, though Goose Cove south of bay.

#1 diesel fuel, sleeping bags, sleeping pads, cooking stove, lantern, pots, pans, plates, utensils, food, toilet paper, garbage bags, fire extinguisher, fire starter and rubber boots. It's a good idea to bring your own water.
