Traveling to Tenakee Springs

You can get to Tenakee Springs, on Chichagof Island, only by plane, boat or the Alaska Marine Highway system ferry. Seaplane service began to this small community in the 1960s and is still an essential connection between Tenakee the rest of the world. It’s a quick, convenient and scenic way to travel. Alaska Seaplanes has scheduled stops in Tenakee Springs three times daily in summer and 1-2 times daily in winter.

The M/V LeConte ferry first arrived in Tenakee in 1978, to great celebration. Esteemed Alaska artist Rie Munoz, who made her summer home in Tenakee for many years, painted “Inaugural Voyage” to commemorate the event.

The M/V LeConte travels from Juneau to Tenakee twice weekly year-round, usually on Thursdays and Saturdays.
