Alaska Railroad Reservations

An Alaska Railroad engine pulls every train, but north of Anchorage (Talkeetna, Denali, and Fairbanks), you can also book private dome railcars operated by the cruise lines and other companies. You don't have to be a cruise passenger to book them. Here's how to book the options:

Alaska Railroad

Choose from two classes of service, Goldstar (premier class) and Adventure Class (coach). Goldstar cars are the most luxurious of any car on the railroad, with full-service dining, intricate decor, and open air decks.

Wilderness Express Dome Railcars

Operates north of Anchorage to Talkeetna, Denali Park and Fairbanks on the Denali Star Route. These luxury private dome railcars feature unsurpassed views from the upper level dome, outdoor platform, and lower level dining room.

Princess Rail Tours

Operates north of Anchorage only (Talkeetna, Denali, Fairbanks). The cruise line's Midnight Sun Express is a double-decker car with 360-degree dome views, a dining area, and large open-air platforms.

Denali Rail Tours

Operates north of Anchorage only (Talkeetna, Denali, Fairbanks). Gray Line of Alaska's McKinley Explorer cars offer a 360-degree dome view (with all seats facing forward), leg room, a dining car, and in-seat entertainment with piped-in narration.
