Alaska’s a tough place to crack. Local knowledge is so important. But it can be hard to get.
Alaskans don’t readily share their secrets, especially when it comes to their favorite hunting or fishing spot. And sometimes, it’s unomfortable to ask. You don’t want to pry, or reveal how little you know about something that it seems everyone else knows a lot about.
Well, we’re here to help.
What are some things you really want to know about living in Alaska but haven’t found answers to?
We’ll research the answers and start posting them in a new section on Alaska.org!
Here are sample questions we’ve received from locals, some who just moved here, others who were born and raised here:
“I’ve met a few private pilots. How do I get invited to go flying with them? And how do I know if they’re safe?”
“Where’s the best grocery store to find fresh food? Where do I find good organic produce?”
“My son is now 12, and I’ve never taken him hunting. It’s just so overwhelming. Where do I go? What permits do I need? How do I gear up? Can we even do this ourselves?”
